Methodology

Built for applied learning, not passive consumption.

The certification uses concise written lessons, deliberate practice, realistic coaching cases, formative knowledge checks and an applied final assessment. The goal is not to accumulate content hours. It is to build judgment you can explain and use.

50structured lessons
10applied coaching labs
100module questions
25applied final questions
Learning design

Learn the concept, make a decision, then use it.

Each module follows the same progression: understand the core idea, apply it to everyday behavior, identify scope limits, practice with a realistic case, then complete a knowledge check.

The fifth lesson of every module includes an Applied Coaching Lab. These cases require you to separate coaching from diagnosis or treatment, choose useful questions, identify referral points and build a client-owned next step.

What a strong lesson must do

  • State clear learning objectives
  • Explain the concept in plain language
  • Show how it changes a real decision
  • Include a practical exercise or reflection
  • Define relevant scope and safety boundaries
  • Connect to primary or authoritative sources

Evidence hierarchy

  1. Primary public guidanceFederal public-health and nutrition guidance when applicable.
  2. Professional scope standardsNBHWC scope principles for non-clinical health and wellness coaching.
  3. Government science resourcesNCCIH, CDC, NHLBI and related evidence summaries.
  4. Course interpretationPractical coaching frameworks are clearly separated from medical claims.
Evidence standards

Claims should be proportional to the evidence.

The course avoids presenting a plausible mechanism as a proven treatment outcome. When evidence is mixed, limited or context-dependent, the material says so. Population guidance is presented as population guidance—not automatically converted into an individualized prescription.

Current core sources include the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2025–2030, NCCIH whole-person and mindfulness resources, CDC/NHLBI sleep resources, and the NBHWC Health & Wellness Coach Scope of Practice.

Assessment

Formative quizzes teach. The final checks judgment.

Each module ends with a 10-question knowledge check requiring 80%. Students can retake it and receive concept-level feedback after submission. The final assessment unlocks only after all 50 lessons and all 10 module checks are complete.

The final contains 25 applied questions built around realistic cases in sleep, movement, nutrition, emotional wellness, mindfulness, coaching conversations and professional ethics. It requires 80% to pass.

Certification standard

The certificate verifies completion of the Modern Holistic Academy curriculum and required assessments. It is an educational certificate of completion, not a healthcare license, psychotherapy credential, dietetics credential or NBHWC board certification.

Quality control

The course is designed to be maintainable, not frozen.

Automated validation checks the complete lesson count, module structure, assessment structure and required course assets before deployment. The reference library is reviewed when major public guidance changes so outdated recommendations can be corrected.

Last core evidence review: September 2026.
